My air bag light is on, and sometimes there is stiffness when turning the steering wheel. What happened?
Recently, when making a right hand turn, a heard a click in the steering column and the air bag light came on. Now there is sometimes stiffness when turning the wheel, and the cruise control does not work. What kind of damage will this cause if I don’t have it repaired right away, and how much will it cost to have the airbag repaired?
As all others have already mentioned, get it to a dealer or reputable repair shop ASAP! The most likely culprit for the stiffness and the source of the click would be the clock-spring; this basically provides wires to the airbag a means to rotate in relation to the steering column in the normal rotational range of the steering wheel(full lock left and right). If you had a recent repair/adjustment/service in the steering area, the clock-spring may have not been centered properly and the click you heard was the wire snapping. It’s probably all bunched-up/wadded-up causing the bind. VERY UNSAFE!
