Promotional USB Memory Sticks – Glossary
If you are thinking of buying branded USB memory, terminology and industry jargon used can be daunting and confusing. To help demystify the procurement and manufacturing process here is a glossary of terms, which should help.
Work: This needs to be provided so that the USB memory device can take your logo or advertising message. There are many different file types in which the pictures can be saved as. The preferred format for printing or the factory because they provide the sharpest print ai (Adobe Illustrator) or EPS (Photoshop) and, ideally, should be in a vectorized format.
Auto Run: An automatic execution facility allows files to run automatically when the USB memory device is inserted into a USB port on a PC. This is useful if you want to take the user directly to their own promotional video, for example. A note of caution though – if you want the recipient of your USB memory device used again and again "auto-run files can be put away, it will not be able to access your data until you have been waiting for execution to run automatically!

USB: Universal Serial Bus. This is a industry standard introduced to allow peripherals to be used in all desktops and laptops.
USB Flash Drive: The most common term, but include other: USB memory, USB memory drive, USB drive, USB jump drive, USB disk and USB drive.
USB 2.0: The main significant difference between the 2.0 and the previous level of 1.1 is that USB 2.0 is faster. USB 2.0 grade point average data rate of 480 Mbps (Megabits per second) while USB 1.1 only hits 12 Mbps, making 2.0 over 40 times faster. All the new memory sticks should be USB 2.0.
