How do I fix an old Coleman Fuel Lantern & Stove?
I have an old Coleman dual burner stove and lantern from my Dad’s garage that I would like to use. They have been sitting for 20 plus years but are in immaculate condition. I have tried to get both to function and am lucky to still have not burned myself. I followed the guidelines for starting the stove and got a 2 foot yellow flame that wouldn’t go away, flooding I guess? Far from the blue flame I needed. As for the lantern once again I followed the instructions and had new mantles and produced 2 or 3 massive fireballs before I quit. Would my problem be old fuel or do I need to clean it somehow, I believe both had fuel sitting in them all these years. Thanks in advance for any help.
You need to change the generators on the stove and the lantern.
the generator on the stove is the long brass tube from the valve to the #1 burner.
The lantern has a similar generator tube only shorter. the correct tube is determined by the number of mantels the lantern has DO NOT use a two mantle generator on a single mantle lantern. Also install new mantle/s.
The generaters go bad when not used for a long period of time. They are easy to replace. Also be sure the burners are clean as well in the area of the wrinkled flame area. they generally can be disassembled easily with a nut on the underside of the burner. be careful for rusty nuts as they can break off the stud.
If in doubt take them to a sporting goods repair center.
