A boat traveling at a compass reading of N30(degrees)W can travel at 15 knots in still water. If the river is flowing southward at 5knots, what is the actual speed of the boat.
I keep getting 13.23 can someone verify that please 
Assumption N30W is 30 degrees West of due North.
boat = (15 * cos(30), 15 * sin(30)) = (15/2 * sqrt(3), 15/2)
river = (5 * cos(180), 5 * sin(180)) = ( -5, 0)
Add:
(15/2 * sqrt(3) – 5, 15/2)
Calculate the magnitude
sqrt((15/2 * sqrt(3) – 5)^2 + (15/2)^2)
= 10.958840697461305965465697342698
