Is there a pet-safe way to get rid of roaches around the house?
I don’t like bug spray, because of the poison. I heard boric acid is poisonous, and baking soda mixes will make a cat sick. The thing is that I have three cats, and they like to chase and eat the bugs. The other day, I found a pile of vomit on the floor with a half-eaten roach in the middle. We have an exterminator, but it isn’t always practical to go to a motel while we have our house tented. Is there any other way?
I lived in the SW where everyone get roaches now and then. Boric acid works better than anything else. Depending on how many are hiding in your walls it may take a few months but they will be gone. If you are not in a detached house you may not be able to eliminate them. If your cat eats one or even several they won’t have enough boric acid on them to hurt the cat.
Boric acid is not that toxic if used properly. I always have cats and none of them ever were harmed by boric acid. Just don’t put in where they will get into it. Put dustings of it in the back of kitchen and bathroom cabinets. Anywhere there is either food or water for them. If you want, put not sticky shelf paper over it. Put it behind the fridge. pull out the stove drawer and put in under there. If you really have a lot of roaches put it in more places. The U of Kentucky has good instructions for using boric acid.
