Tent reception in May?
I have a few questions. First, I live in Ohio, and am getting married in mid-May. I have run out of options for a reception hall (due to procrastination and lack of reception halls in my area). I have decided to have a tent reception, which I’m excited about, but I’m scared that the weather will be rainy, cold, etc. Do you think I should just risk it?
Also, I want to use round paper lanterns in the tent. Does anyone know a cheap place where I can purchase them?
Third, a friend of the family is catering my wedding, and although she is an amazing caterer, she does not supply the plates/cups/silverware. I don’t want to look cheap and use plastic plates, but there are no rental places around my area for china or nice cups. What should I do?
Well, I live in Indiana, so the weather here mid-May is pretty similar. I’d say, temperature-wise, you should be okay. If it’s slightly chilly people will bring jackets or sweaters. As far as rain goes, you can rent tents with sides on them, just in case the wind is blowing. If it doesn’t rain, just don’t use the sides.
There are really nice quality disposable plates, silverware and cups out there, and for an essentially outdoor reception, that’s probably your best bet. Think about it: what would you do with all the dirty plates after everyone was done eating? With disposables, you can just toss them in an out-of-sight trash can. I’m using disposable stuff for my reception, and here’s what I’ve found:
