Hiking the Grand Canyon in 1 day?
Hi, I'm going to hike the Grand Canyon with 10 other people or less, on March 24, up and down from 7 to 8 hours. I thought I was thinking about the track, 8 hours for 17 miles, seems althoughly fast, this test should not be difficult at all, only in length, is it correct to assume this? How narrow is the way, how long does it deviate from the top down? thanks
As some of the posters have noted earlier, hiking the Grand Canyon is different from hiking in other places, and there are a number of factors that have to deal with: variations the distance, steep slopes, high altitude (the South Rim is at 7000 feet), extremes of temperature, the hard part of the increase to be in the final. On my first trip to the bottom, the person in our group, all the major problems was really a Olympic coach. A couple of years ago, a young woman who was better classified in the Boston Marathon died trying to go to the bottom and back in one day. On the other hand, many people do regularly without serious problems. I've done several times and although I am an experienced hiker barrel, I'm not an Olympic athlete or marathon runner. The conclusion is that if I have not hiked in the canyon before, I really do not know how it will affect – no matter what shape you are in. I personally do not recommend going to the bottom and back in one day to who has made a few more short hike and the trip made overnight to test their 'feet first barrel. Otherwise, you are rolling dice … especially as many people – if one of you has a serious problem that you all have a serious problem. As others have said, there is a big difference in temperature between the top and bottom (though I'd say the difference is usually closer to 20 degrees 30) and the weather can change quickly. I returned from a backpacking trip to the bottom of this weekend. Along the way, clear and warm on the inside of the throat and we had only t-shirts and put the protector solar. By the time we reached the rim, a storm had moved and it was snowing, cold and we were all grouped in heavy winter clothing. The time may be even more variable in March – to be prepared. One question we should ask is … Why? Even if all are able to do (and do so very fast time 7-8 hours), will have little time to enjoy Phantom Ranch or stop and enjoy the views. In fact, you have no time to enjoy the same canyon – Which is the true reward for walking is. I would say you just go down to the point plateau by India Gardens – which remains a tour of a very difficult day and get a fantastic view. Or the road to Horseshoe Mesa Grandview – another excellent but still very difficult day hike. Do not be so caught up in what it at the bottom and back that you miss the true treasures of the canyon. Finally, if you insist on going to the bottom and back in one day and the weather is cool and cloudy, you may want to consider the adoption of the Kaibab trail in both directions (instead of going on the South Kaibab and up Bright Angel as suggested by mileage). The conventional wisdom is to climb the canyon bright Angel Trail because it has more shade, the water in the gardens of India and the belief that it is a more softer, easier to climb SK. The water stop in the garden of India is a great advantage and makes the BA track the only real option when the weather is warm. But in winter, shade less in South Kaibab is actually an advantage because it gives the hottest sunlight and helps maintain the upper portions of ice-free path (a potentially large problem if a storm has recently passed through.) As BA is less pronounced than SK … I think this is largely an error caused by the belief that since BA is 3 miles from SK, you must be a gradual ascent. However, the additional length of BA is due mainly to the line 2.5 miles along the river at the bottom – the climbing parties (to the inner gorge and the Redwall Limestone) are as pronounced as the equivalent sections in KS. Either route, you will go up 5000 feet – BA you just add an extra 2.5 miles of walking on it. For these reasons, we largely prefer South Kiabab up in winter when the weather is cool and I can easily carry enough water to do it in one take (And the scenery is better in SK as well.) However, SK option is only viable up in winter when the day is certainly going to be cool and cloudy all day. You do not want to leave the South Kiabab if there is any possibility that the high temperature above 70 under. In fact, no matter which way to go, make sure everyone in your party is carrying plenty of water – dehydration is the leading cause of death in the canyon and if the day is sunny hiking tours, departing mid-week will be tiring. Everyone should have at least 4.3 liters (more salty snacks and electrolytes).

Legendary Drill Instructor Marching Cadence-Volume 2 “Calling cadence” began (and still is) as simple as a unit leader calling out “left right left right” so that his or her unit stays in step when in formation. However, it has also evolved into a soulful, musical “sing-song” version that is fun to sing and march to, as well as more elaborate “jodies” which are generally shouted or sung in a call-and-response fashion…. |
