How do you remove those rubber gaskets from Sigg water bottle caps for cleaning without damaging them?
Do these gaskets even need to be removed for cleaning purposes? After much frustration trying to pry them lose with a fork or knife and almost destroying them in the process, I just stopped bothering and so far no one has gotten sick from whatever germs are lurking on and around them. But then I discovered a yucky, mildewy gasket on a similar water bottle cap (not a Sigg) and decided I should re-think the “can’t be bothered” approach. I have checked the Sigg site FAQ and can’t find anything helpful there to guide me.
I have a Sigg bottle too.. I know what you’re talking about with the yellow residue. I just don’t care enough to clean it off, and I haven’t gotten sick from it. Maybe soaking it in vinegar for 15-30 minutes and then using a stiff brush would take off the deposits. I think the best solution would just to buy a new cap (or several) from Moosejaw.com.
