What size air compressor should I buy?
I want to fly my irrigation lines in the fall. be able to inflate the tires on my lawnmower on horseback and use maybe a few air tools such as nailers.
Well, if you will not use it very often, you may just want to get used a flea market, Craig's List, eBay, etc. Most nail guns operate in the range of 70 to 120 psi, although some small nailers brad operate in only 60 psi. Your lawn mower tires are probably less than 50 psi. CFM (cubic feet per minute) is an important measure to look ratchets air, paint sprayers and texture, impact guns, etc, since these tools require a constant supply of air in a minimum pressure. If you are using these tools, or expect, then you need to consider the requirements of the particular tool you want, and get a compressor that will do more than that. Most of palm sanders, for example, it takes about 8 to 10 cubic feet per minute at 90 psi. If you intend to use two of them at the same time, the compressor would to be able to deliver about 20 cfm @ 90 psi. How many gallons the tank is maintained not say this, so do not be fooled by thinking a "larger tank 'means that it becomes more cubic feet per minute. I carry a 2.5-liter compressor that will put thousands around 5 gallon compressor shame, lol. Take your time shopping for a compressor … get a good idea of what tools to use and, to their needs.
