The reason is a visceral study politics. They are definitely not more dangerous or faster than any knife in particular. But "scary" and (Maybe still are) popular with different ethnic gangs. Only time will tell, but more and more states are passing laws that remove restrictions on carrying a knife and property, even in this last year.
