Can you put multiple layers of single stage black paint on top on each other?
I’m just painting my engine bay, nothing too crazy, just want it to be decently nice. Would it be a good idea to add some clear coat on top of the black too? I don’t know too much about paint but i can paint pretty well, i just need some info, thanks.
You can put multiple layers of single stage black on top of each other, although you don’t want to put on any more paint than necessary. The thicker you get your paint, the more chance you have that it might crack. Also, the more paint you use, the more paint you have to buy.
Although single stage black paint is glossy, it doesn’t look exactly the same as black with a layer of clear coat on top of it. It looks almost the same to the untrained eye, but there is a difference. Whether you put clear coat on top of it is just a matter of how you like the look of it. You could try the single stage and see how that looks, then put the clear coat on it later if you think it needs it.
Most engine bays for regular cars don’t have to be all that glossy because eventually they will be dulled by all of the chemicals, oils, heat, etc. that goes on under the hood. Again, it really depends on what you are looking for. How often do you clean your engine bay? Is your car a show car?
I need more info about your situation in order to give better advice, but this should get you started.
