General Accessories Vest: Solution or problem?

There has been a series of articles, forum discussions, and conversations of the trials chorus, in recent years in all Australian police organizations about improper accoutrement belts is issued to uniformed members of operation.

The "failure" of these bands is that they can lead to the large number of tools to the police operation these days, and of greatest concern is that these belts are actually causing serious injury among officers. These injuries range from insomnia, back strains, sciatic discomfort, and a host of other injuries in many cases is considered a work-related injury.

Obviously, if a computer is causing harm, or not at the level required of it, then something should be done, right?

But what options are there?

NSW Police has sought the issuance of a type of belt to see if that solves the problem. For some people it is. But then you have the silly problem of the tape is used operationally is not the belt members are allowed to use when carrying out their OSTT / Firearms re-qualification. Just another example of idiots running things ….. but let's not go there.

Almost all Australian police organizations have "tried" a vest accoutrement for members GD. Some of these trials were operating members using the service vests and provide feedback. Other trial versions, and the only ones I have personally seen vest was a case of sitting in the office of a non-operating member, and the decisions of all being on the ground that the office environment.

Al Apparently the general consensus was that the vest was too "tactical" or "military" in appearance, and we all know how our respective directors adverse Police are on our police is seen as more than blue Care Bears. The fact that similar vests are being worn by officers happy Ambulance seems to be ignored by police management.

Somehow, another vest was of origin, and tasted. The "General accoutrement Vest" (GAV) is made by an Australian company, personal protective clothing (PPC) in Victoria. Again, this vest has been "tested" by the police operational, and I have yet to hear an official who has tried to say I would use. In fact, the only comments I have received from officers who refused testing operation after one day due to the fact that it was too hot to wear, or was totally ridiculous.

However, they have been ignored. At least one organization of the Police of Australia has announced that these vests will be launched. The idea is that it will only be provided as an option for officers too short, and possibly those with documented back injuries.

I have my concerns.

First place, and this must be addressed. The vest looks like either a pinch of steroids, or something out of a set of Sado-masochistic fantasy closet. PPC website VAB provides that provides the public with a "unique visual memory." The same goes for a clown suit, but that does not mean it is a good idea to have our first line of police wearing a clown costume!

I have shown pictures of GVA police officers in Australia and abroad, people, and have never been police officers, and not one person said was a professional appearance or even positive. Those who were not busy laughing were very critical with the emergence of VAB. A term used to describe the vest for a police officer was Queensland Gay Action Vest. "

The police need all the help we can get to do their job. Having the general public laughing at his appearance did not help.

Secondly, and most importantly, is the ability of an officer of GVA use wear bulletproof vests. I tried to contact CFP to respond to this concern, but refuse to answer my e-mails or return my phone calls. Perhaps they were too busy?

As for the armor, a number of points must be raised, not made in a previous article on GAV.

Tackle: The team held the VAB includes a radio official baton, handcuffs and OC ASR /. If body armor is placed on the VAB, then the team can not be used. Imagine being seriously injured and unable to ask help on the radio because it is under your armor? What it tries to resist the assault that does not justify you using his weapon, but his gun is accessible only like everything else is under his armor?

Projectiles / blunt force trauma. Body armor is designed not only to stop penetration of a bullet, but also to disperse the impact of the bullet over a wide area, to prevent broken bones, organs bruised, or the impact of the bullet that cause other serious injury, (imagine the force of a bullet hole in his heart?). The problem with having your supplies under the body armor that makes body armor to become irregular, which may allow penetration of bullets, or more likely, the force of the bullet does not disperse, and may cause parts of your cutting tools in its body. In fact, not an acceptable situation.

Perhaps the GAV is designed to be placed on your armor? In the Currently, to use bulletproof vests, all a police officer has to do is put the armor.

If the VAB was to be used in the armor of body, this is what should happen – GVA have to be removed, (in itself is not a preferred option as the probability of losing the game is greater), put body armor, set the VAB to a larger size, and then back to the VAB. Much more time consuming process, and if the situation warrants the use of open body armor, then the time is something that generally, or the public, are not.

But why is the VAB in the testing phase? What is the justification of spending a large chunk of taxpayer money in these trying ….. something?

Current thinking by the directors of the Police in relation to the issues described above belt of the police is that the only solution is to reduce the amount of weight on the straps. Even the police numerous articles Union / Association have not been away from this thinking. NSW and Victoria Police have moved to using covers for stabbing his thigh in the mistaken assumption that it will reduce the weight on the belt.

The police are solving problems. Have In order to think outside the box, so let's do that now.

If weight is the issue of police belts, How can we fix that?

Well, who carries the same weight on the belt?

U.S. Police do. Canadian police do not. What to do to reduce the weight on the belt? They use braces. Uncle Mike is just a company that makes braces Application Belt Law. They are designed to transfer some of the weight of the band's shoulders, which is exactly what the VAB wants to do, and the straps are designed to released if some parasites decided to use the straps to hold an official.

And when Legear can provide these links to $ 57.40, retail price, you have to ask why not "tested" prior to police agencies spend hundreds of thousands of dollars in the VAB. Even if the organization just agreeing to reimburse members for the purchase of these links, it would be much cheaper than its planned "suit clown "solution.

But is it? If all of these Official injury is so easy to solve, with only one set of braces?

What happens to own belts? Why is that police in Australia are allowed to wear the belt that is issued, and only that tape? Police "Duty" belts are made by Safariland, Bianchi, Gould and Goodrich, Uncle Mike, 5.11, Blackhawk, Courage Legear, and a plethora of other recognized companies. But in the face of uncomfortable and injured officers, their employers insist they must wear a seat belt problem, or face disciplinary action. In previous articles I said that police organizations should allow their staff to use equipment that meets a standard, and not only insist that a make and model may be used.

I had a Bianchi belt for most of my time in the Police, and the biggest feature I noticed was that allowed more "real estate" in front of the thong issue Safariland, by Safariland belt that has a fake buckle decoration up much space. More space in the belt Men more ability to move the team to a comfortable position.

What if there is a belt? Why is that in recent 11 years or so I've been involved in the Police, I have not heard once from a Canadian or U.S. Police official complaints about injuries resulting from use equipment belt? In most cases they actually have more equipment on their belts of Australian officials. If only more Australian officials whingers big?

No, I had more on my duty belt all other police officers in my region (extra grips, extra charger and extra torch), and did so for years. I even slept on the concrete floor using the damn thing during the occasional breaks in my years of double shifts. Why is that I have no back pain or injury?

Exercise. A large percentage of U.S. Police and Canada also have. Although this subject can access an entire magazine itself is common knowledge that the best form of prevention and rehabilitation for back injuries is the exercise appropriate. Once our police leave their respective schools of training, there is no requirement or incentive for the exercise, which can guarantee that has led to a lot of injuries to our front line police.

Instead of spending ridiculous amounts of money in an equally ridiculous vest future, about how our view of the police management in the prevention of injuries as have police? That actually show some concern the health and welfare of our police instead of just protecting the organization of future demands.
